60-Year-Old Palm Wine Tapper Loses His Life After a Minor Scuffle With a Young Man

A palm wine tapper in his early 60s, known as Kwofie, has tragically lost his life following a misunderstanding with a young man he had hired to clear his palm plantation.

The incident occurred on Monday, 25 August 2025, around 1 PM, on Kwofie's farm in Daboasi, a farming community in the Western Region.

The young man, affectionately called Akuffu Addo, confronted Kwofie to collect a payment of GH¢200 for the job.

Sources indicate that Kwofie had postponed the payment three times, which reportedly infuriated Akuffu Addo and led to the fatal confrontation.

Akuffu Addo is in police custody, with reports suggesting he may have been under the influence of substance abuse during the incident.

Residents who spoke with YEN.com.gh expressed their concerns, noting that the young man is not originally from Daboasi and had moved to the area in search of better opportunities.

The Daboasi community is in a state of shock, as this is the first time such an incident has occurred.

Many young people have gathered at the local police station, demanding that Akuffu Addo face immediate justice.

The assembly member for the area, Seth Cudjoe, confirmed that the alleged murderer was apprehended by residents and is now in police custody, as the community grapples with the aftermath of this tragic event. He has been transferred to the Shama police station.

Police rescue 12-year-old from abusers

In another development, the police have rescued a 12-year-old boy who was assaulted in a viral video and arrested the two men seen beating him.

The suspects, Issah Morro, 58, and Suleman Abdul Rashid, 27, allegedly tied up the child and beat him after a coconut seller accused him of stealing GH₵200.

The disturbing incident happened in New Ankasa, Jomoro District, near Elubo in Ghana's Western Region.

Sources say the vendor suspected the boy of taking the money and reported it to the men, who then subjected him to the abuse.

Eyewitnesses reportedly stood by as the child screamed for help. The suspects are now in police custody and assisting with investigations.

Superintendent Olivia Adiku from the Public Affairs Unit confirmed they will be processed for court and warned that anyone else seen in the viral video would also face the law.

Meanwhile, YEN.com.gh reported earlier that Thomas Zigah, also known as Nii Jaase, was arrested in connection with the murder of immigration officer Stephen King Amoah.
