President John Dramani Mahama has honoured 13 residents of Sikaman-Brofoyedu in the Adansi Akrofrom District for their bravery in recovering the bodies of eight victims from the tragic military helicopter crash on August 6, 2025.

President Mahama rewards Sikaman-Brofoyedu residents

National Democratic Congress (NDC) Chairman Johnson Asiedu Nketiah led a delegation to the community on Wednesday, August 27, to deliver the President’s message of gratitude and a support package.

The fatal military helicopter crash, which occurred in the Dampia Range Forest Reserve, claimed the lives of eight high-ranking officials, including Defence Minister Dr Edward Omane Boamah and Environment Minister Dr Ibrahim Murtala Muhammed, who were on official duty.

“As the President has asked me to say, we are here to thank the residents who helped us recover the bodies of our eight men. We have a plaque for all of you in honour of what you did,” Asiedu Nketiah said, per a report by Citi Newsroom.

The government presented GH¢100,000 to the rescuers, an additional GH¢20,000 to the Adansi Traditional Council for customary rites, and promised all 13 volunteers job placements tailored to their skills.

President Mahama also assured the community that their roads would be rehabilitated as part of wider infrastructure improvements.
